Tales From the Storyteller

When Jesus taught the crowds who gathered to hear Him speak, he usually told them the stories we now call parables. And often He finished those stories with the words “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Many of those stories are hard to understand, especially to modern listeners, because our lives are different from the people of His time. And although the Bible says that Jesus explained all of these stories to His disciples, often those explanations aren’t included in the Gospels.

I’m going to try and retell these parables in a way that gives you some of the background that His listeners took for granted. I hope it will help you hear the story more clearly, the way the people of His time understood them. – Mike Southern
