Missions

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, future Mission Trips were deferred until such time as conditions related to the Pandemic have improved.

Annual Missions Trips

Each year the youth and adults of First Presbyterian Church participate in a Missions project.   The majority of the funding for these Mission activities comes from hands on work efforts by the Mission Team that further spread the word.  One these efforts is the popular Rent-A-Kid project where for a donation one or more of the youth will come and do chores for you.  Other fund-raising activities have included making and selling chocolate covered peanuts, calendar sales and spaghetti dinners.  And, of course, donations are always accepted and appreciated.

The Mission Team has travelled to Mexico, to the Appalachian Mountains, to the coast of South Carolina, and to an Indian Reservation in Cherokee, North Carolina.  Each mission trip has been a unique experience as the tasks required have been varied.   We have worked in medical clinics.  We have dug septic lines.  We have built decks, ramps and a play set.   We have painted and planted.  The Mission Trips are in coordination with TEAMeffort which provides opportunities each year for youth and leaders from different churches to work together in rewarding and faith-building experiences.

Most importantly we have shown God’s love in our work and deeds.  We hope that in the coming years, we will be able to send more missionaries to reach out with God’s helping hand.

On July 15 – 21, 2012 the First Presbyterian Mission Team travelled to Washington, D.C. where there are many local missions, urban ministries and inner city churches that work to bring the love of Christ to their neighbors.

Our Mission Team helped these missions in their daily ministry through a variety of hands-on projects at soup kitchens, vacation bible school, children’s homes and working at food and clothing ministries.  Visit the 2012 Mission Trip Blog for more information and photos.
