I wanted to take a few moments to share with you some information about a new communication tool we will be using here at First Presbyterian Church.  Thanks to a generous donation from our Egg Committee we have been able to purchase a “phone tree” system.

So, what is a phone tree?  Simply put, a phone tree is a method of delivering a message to a group of people.  Traditionally this is done by one person making a call to a few others, and then those individuals calling others until everyone in the “tree” has received the message.  For example, the person starting the process might call two people, and then those two people would call two people, etc.  We have been using this type of system here for a while with our Elder Flocks, and we will continue to use the flock system in the future.

To that system we will be adding an automated phone tree.  In this case, we will have the ability to send a single recorded message from the church phone to all of our members.  Again, this will not in any way replace the personal touch of the individual calls from your Elder.  It will, however, provide us with an additional way to get important messages out to all of our members in a timely fashion.  We will be using this system, along with the Elder Flocks, to let you know of important events, reminders, inclement weather closings, deaths in the church, and so forth.

In the next few weeks we will be doing a few test runs with small groups in the church.  Once these have been completed we will do a test run with all of our members and friends to make certain everything is working correctly.  We will inform you on the Sunday morning prior to this first test so you will know to expect the call.

It is our hope that this new system will help us to improve our communication and make sure that everyone receives important information.

Yours in Christ,

John Pruitt
