2014 Scholarship Recipients

This year we had two recipients of the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship.  Marybeth Althouse and Andrew Tincher were each awarded $500 on May 11, 2014. They were also recognized at their individual schools for having won this scholarship.  Congratulations to each of them as they pursue their college education.

Marybeth Althouse
Marybeth will be attending Western Carolina University School of Music, next year, pursing a degree in music.

Marybeth attends Greensboro College Middle College where she has been a member of the Greensboro College Chorale.  While attending Norwest Guilford High School, she was a member of the band.  She volunteers with Greyhound Friends of North Carolina.  While living in Pennsylvania, she participated in The Lions Club program. She just recently performed a solo in her school’s talent show.

Here at First Presbyterian Church, Marybeth sings in the choir.  She attends choir practice each week and often volunteers to sing solos.  She, also, plays bells and trumpet for church.  Marybeth has been in Christmas plays and has participated in the Christmas Parade, Youth and KIC.  She attends Sunday School and church services regularly.

Marybeth is a very talented young lady.  It is my honor to present this scholarship to you on behalf of First Presbyterian Church.  Congratulations! We wish you well and look forward to hearing of your music career as you pursue your dreams.  Our prayer will be that God continues to Bless You!

Andrew Tincher
Drew will be attending UNC-Charlotte, next year, pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Drew participates in The Crosby Scholars Program at East Forsyth High School.  He is an Eagle Scout, which is no small accomplishment, and has his own mowing business. He has had several job offers for the summer as well.

Here at First Presbyterian Church, Drew has been active nearly his whole life, by attending Sunday School, and church services regularly, he was even an acolyte when he was younger.  He is an usher, greeter, and lay reader.  He helps with KIC (children’s program) every month, and has done so for years.  He is active in our church youth program, has participated in the Christmas Parade, Running on Faith, and has helped for years with the Holiday Market and Vacation Bible School.  Drew has attended five mission trips, and so has helped with projects and fundraising for the Mission Team throughout the year.

Drew is a very impressive young man. He is a hard worker and I anticipate hearing great things about his future successes.  I am honored to present this scholarship on behalf of everyone here at First Presbyterian.  Drew Tincher, you make us proud.  Congratulations!  Our prayer will be that God continues to Bless You!
