Parables Of Jesus

A selection of Jesus’ Parables in paraphrase format.

THE LOST SHEEP

The Parable of the Lost Sheep is recorded in both Matthew 18:12 13 and Luke 15:3-6. But the verses around the parable — Matthew 18:10-14 and Luke 15:1-7 — give us a good idea what Jesus was really talking about. (Previously published Sept 2014)

THE MUSTARD SEED

The Parable of the Mustard Seed is recorded three times — in Matthew 13:31-32, Mark 4:30-32 and Luke 13:18-19. But the
parable itself is never explained. (Previously published October 2014)

THE PEARL

The Parable of the Pearl is recorded only in Matthew 13:45-46. But most people understand it as a picture of God’s love for us. Previously published November 2024)

THE SOWER

The Parable of the Sower is one of the best-known parables Jesus told, and it’s recorded in three gospels — Matthew 13: 3-9,
Mark 4:3-9 and Luke 8:4-8. It’s also one of the few parables that is explained — in Matthew 13:18-23, Mark 4:14-20 and Luke
8:11-15. Previously published November 2014)

THE YEAST

The Parable of the Yeast is recorded in two of the three gospels — Matthew 13: 33 and Luke 13:20-21. But the parable itself is
never explained. (Previously published January 2015)

THE GOOD SAMARITAN

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is recorded in only one of the gospels — Luke 10:25-37. Jesus was asked, “Who is my neighbor?” (Verse 29) and He replied with this parable. But while no explanation was given, the meaning is clear; as Jesus told His disciples, “Go and do the same” (Verse 37). (Previously published February 2015)
